Alesia Cain is an Executive Consultant in the Mobility Systems and Communications Division at Ross & Baruzzini | MACRO and serves as the Vice Chair of the APTA Research and Technology Committee. She has over 30 years technology leadership and management experience in both private and public sectors. Prior to joining Ross & Baruzzini | MACRO, Alesia was employed for 18 years at Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) in Norfolk, Virginia. For the last 7 years, she served as Chief Information Officer and Chief Technology Officer (CIO & CTO) overseeing all aspects of enterprise information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) including cybersecurity, project management, application management, business intelligence, data systems and management, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), technology infrastructure, networking, and communications. Alesia was responsible for executing on strategic and transformative mobility and innovation projects at the agency and for developing the agency’s technology strategic plans, capital improvement plan and product roadmaps. She led assessments and improvements of the agency’s automatic fare collection and revenue systems, ITS and ERP systems, and she championed the implementation of HRT’s first mobile ticketing and payment solution, HRT’s first cross-departmental data analysis team, the automation and publication of HRT’s agency KPIs, the creation of the Technology Project Management Office, and the creation of HRT’s Cybersecurity Office. HRT’s Board tapped Alesia to create and be the Lead HRT Representative for the HRT Smart Cities and Innovation Committee that brought together Hampton Roads municipality leaders, civic members, transit advisory committee members and local business leaders to help elevate and support regional innovation, emerging technology, and mobility initiatives at HRT. Alesia is an Intelligent Transportation Society of Virginia (ITSVA) Board Member and actively participates in several of the APTA Committees and Working Groups. She is also a panel member working on a TCRP Cyber Security in Transit Systems Synthesis. Alesia has membership with WTS International and Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO). She currently resides in New York and graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park.
